Import and export

Bring a library in from another app. Take it out whenever you like.
SafariImport bookmarks and your Reading List from Settings in the Mac app.
Pocket, Readwise, Omnivore, mymindConverters that run in your browser turn each export into DoubleMemory’s JSON format. Nothing is uploaded.
Any other formatMap it to the documented JSON format, or ask any LLM to write a script you run locally. Then import it from Settings.
ExportYour whole library as JSON, any time.

Delete everything

There is no account to close. The data is in your iCloud.

Deleting the app does not remove your library from iCloud. To remove it too:

  1. Open System Settings on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, not DoubleMemory’s own settings.
  2. Tap your name, then iCloud.
  3. Tap Manage.
  4. Find DoubleMemory and choose Delete from iCloud.

Why apps like this keep shutting down

A hosted read-it-later or bookmark service is a VC value trap: every new user brings more to store and more to process, so costs grow with the user base instead of shrinking.
A hosted serviceCosts grow with every user
StorageEvery saved page, image and highlight sits on its servers, and the pile only grows.
AISummaries, tags and search run on its GPUs, billed per item, per user, forever.
SoIt needs VC money, ads or data deals to keep up, then a pivot, a sale or a shutdown.
DoubleMemoryCosts stay flat
StorageYour library lives on your devices and in your own iCloud. There is no server of ours to fill.
AIAuto Tags, Listen and Ask Memory run on your device with Apple Intelligence.
SoA new user costs close to nothing, so the core can stay free and the app stays alive.

Delicious, Omnivore, UpNext, Readability and Pocket all closed, and Instapaper changed hands several times. DoubleMemory skips those costs by design, so it is default-alive: it keeps working as long as iCloud does. Why local-first is the only sensible architecture

Why a subscription

From the maker’s essay on the value model.
1
The core stays free.Local-first keeps the cost of capture and browsing near zero, so they stay free for everyone.
2
You pay for what helps you remember. The subscription funds features that turn saving into recall, like AI retrieval and organization or listening instead of reading.
3
Our incentive matches yours.A one-time sale rewards chasing new buyers. A modest recurring fee only lasts while the app stays useful to you.
